We started small, handcrafting and importing unique pieces from skilled artisans India and Nepal, building lasting partnerships rooted in trust, shared values, and a love for quality craftsmanship.

Fast forward to 2017—in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Kathmandu, BellyMonk took a bold leap into something new: bags. Not just any bags, but a reimagining of the iconic Dhaka prints—a traditional Nepalese design famous for its bold, geometric patterns and deep cultural roots. We thought, Why should Dhaka only live in ceremonies or tucked away in family trunks? Why not make it the star of the street?
That question turned into an obsession. We spent years researching—hunting for the perfect prints, testing fabrics that could take on city life without losing their charm, and sketching designs that balanced cultural authenticity with streetwear swagger. We scoured Kathmandu for skilled tailors who understood not just sewing, but storytelling through stitches. These were the kind of artisans who could line up a Dhaka pattern perfectly even with their eyes half-closed.
When the first BellyMonk Bags hit the streets of Kathmandu, the reaction was electric. Students wore them like badges of individuality. Travelers stuffed them with maps and souvenirs, wearing them from mountaintops to market stalls. Even locals who grew up with Dhaka couldn’t help but smile at how fresh, modern, and yes—hip it looked in this new form.
